ONWARD Compé

Thanks for checking out the open call for the ONWARD Compé ’12! Now in our fifth year of selecting and exhibiting the world’s foremost emerging contemporary photographers we’re looking for this year’s competition to be the the largest yet with an ever-increasing amount of global participation. Once again, this year all of the submission materials for the open call will also be translated into Japanese. This will allow for an even richer discourse and interaction between our ever-growing international photography community.

We are also thrilled to have partnered with so many fantastic photography organizations and sponsors. Chosen work will of course be featured in the ONWARD Compé ’12 exhibition at the Project Basho Gallery from February 9 – March 25, 2010. Selected photographers from ONWARD Compé ’12 will also have the opportunity to have their work featured through several of our media sponsors such as fototazo, Ahorn Magazine, and others.

The two Juror’s Award recipients will receive a two-person show at Project Basho Gallery, a $500 cash prize, either a GR Digital IV or the GXR+S10 Kit digital camera from Ricoh, 
an invitation to present their work at the ONWARD Summit ’12 on February 11th, 2012 in Philadelphia, a Spyder3Elite & Spyder Cube from Datacolor, a camera/laptop bag from Crumpler, and a portfolio printed by Sous Les Etoiles in New York City. Selected photographers for the exhibition will also receive additional prizes.

We are also especially delighted to have the very distinguished Todd Hido as this year’s juror. The San Francisco-based photographer’s affecting and ambiguous landscapes and portraits explore loneliness and anonymity in American suburbia. His award-winning monographs including House Hunting (2001), Outskirts (2002) and Roaming (2004) have garnered critical acclaim and established him as a important voice in contemporary fine art photography. His work has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in commercial galleries and museums and is part of many prestigious collections including the Guggenheim Museum, George Eastman House, Whitney Museum of American Art, and more.

The deadline for the open call for entries is Monday, November 28 December 5, 2011. The ONWARD Compé ’12 exhibition of selected work will take place at the Project Basho Gallery from February 9 – March 25, 2012.
